Stay, walk,
and soak.
Miuraya is not a place where your trip is complete within the guest room alone. Walk to the public baths, drop into shops along the way, wander Takayu Street. It's a small base for enjoying the hot spring town of Zao Onsen itself.
About Miuraya
Miuraya is a 7-room, room-only guesthouse on Takayu Street in Zao Onsen, revitalised from a former inn building. It operates as a base for walking to the public baths, visiting shops around the hot spring town, and exploring the streets.
The Building and Time
The building is more than 70 years old. Its original timber structure, fittings, and warm atmosphere have been retained, while the interior has been renovated for the needs of a present-day stay.
Rather than preserving everything unchanged or replacing everything with something new, Miuraya carries its history forward as a practical base for experiencing the onsen town today.

Stay in the Heart of the Hot Spring Town
A stay at Miuraya extends beyond the guest room.
Footsteps on the way to the public baths, the faint scent of hot spring water, and Takayu Street changing with the seasons. A quiet morning walk, a restorative soak, and a return through the town at dusk—these simple moments shape the experience of staying in Zao Onsen.
From snow-covered winters and fresh green spring days to cool summer breezes and mountains coloured by autumn, let Miuraya be your base for slowing down and experiencing the rhythm of this place.

Exploring the Public Baths
There is no bathing facility inside Miuraya itself.
Guests receive a complimentary bathing ticket for the large public bath at one of our partner properties.
Miuraya is located on Takayu Street, next to Shimoyu Public Bath. The hot spring town also has Kamiyu Public Bath and Kawarayu Public Bath.

Before You Stay
About Heating and Air Conditioning
Heating is provided throughout the property for a comfortable winter stay. Zao Onsen is a hot spring area with sulphur in the water, and equipment here is prone to corrosion, so guest rooms at Miuraya do not have air conditioning. In summer, please make use of the screens, natural ventilation, and electric fans provided. If you are sensitive to heat or require air conditioning, please keep this in mind before booking.
About Sound in the Wooden Building
Because this is a wooden building that has aged over many years, sound from corridors, stairs, and neighbouring rooms may carry. Soundproofing is not equivalent to that of a modern hotel.
About Shared Facilities
Toilets and showers are shared facilities. There is no bathing facility inside the building.
About Self Check-in / Check-out
Check-in and check-out are both self-service.
About Yukata
Yukata robes are not provided. Please bring your own loungewear if needed.
